Counselling
I illustrate my understanding of psychological counselling by turning to a methapor here – the methapor of Holographic Selves.
Holograms are usually made of glass and created by laser technology: the visual information of an object in the real world is put into the glass by laser rays. The metaphor is connected to the phenomenon that is visible after you break the glass.

Having broken the hologram you would expect a fragmented picture; little shreds of all parts of the original object, which can never be integrated into the whole picture again. But this is not the case. You can see the whole picture in all the splinters, maybe in thousand little parts all over the place.
The holographic nature of human soul suggests that the healthy fragments are not separate parts of the persona since each sliver holds the potential of a fully functional psyche. This wholeness is an invulnerable segment of our personae which cannot be harmed by any pathological process or traumatic episode. I always aim to get in touch with this Form in the course of counselling.
I believe in this methapor as a true characteristic of the human self – when I communicate with my clients, I talk not to just one little healthy fragment of my client’s personality, but to the complete version of my client’s true self – and I can search for and facilitate this true Gestalt.
You can contact me as a counsellor by e-mail and I also work at the Counselling Centre of ELTE University where you can arrange an appointment with me through our Peer Counsellors.
